King Edward VI College

M&J were awarded the contract through a successful CIF bid to replace the pitched roof on a historic section of King Edward VI College, with parts dating back to the 1500s. The works required careful coordination due to the building’s Grade II listed status.

The project included full roof replacement with heritage-style tiles, restoration of the bell tower, chimneys, weathervane, and decorative features, along with upgrades to guttering and drainage systems. Additional value was delivered through the proactive repair of deteriorating chimneys using drone surveys to avoid unnecessary costs, and the replacement of a failing flat roof to protect key infrastructure.

All works were completed in consultation with the local heritage department to ensure historical integrity. When original materials were unavailable, such as the two-hole decorative ridge tiles, custom replicas were produced using 3D printing.

The project was delivered on time and within budget, showcasing M&J’s expertise in complex refurbishment works on live educational and heritage sites.
