The Oakwood Primary School project involved the full refurbishment of both pitched and flat roof areas across the site. Delivered as part of Southampton City Council’s estate improvement programme, the objective was to resolve historic leaks, improve thermal performance in line with Part L regulations, and enhance the building’s long-term resilience. All works were carefully planned to minimise disruption, particularly during term time, and were completed ahead of programme.
The main challenge was working within a live school environment. The project team carefully scheduled noisy or intrusive works during school holidays, weekends, or off-peak hours. Detailed planning and early engagement with school staff allowed lessons and operations to continue without disruption. Additionally, the project was completed 11 weeks ahead of schedule, allowing the school to begin planned internal works earlier than expected.
The project successfully delivered a full roofing upgrade across the school, providing a safe, watertight, and well-insulated environment. High standards were maintained throughout, with both external and internal finishes completed to a professional level. Stakeholder satisfaction was achieved through clear communication, flexibility, and timely delivery.
