The refurbishment of the pitched roofs for the Diss Cemetery chapel and workshop included several crucial steps. Initially, we carefully removed and stored the existing roof coverings for reuse, considering the Grade II listed status of the building. We disposed of the old felt and battens to make way for new felt and treated battens installed across the roof area, accompanied by new counter battens to create an air gap for ventilation.
The process also involved reinstalling the set-aside handmade clay plain tiles, incorporating new tiles that closely matched the existing ones as much as possible. Additionally, in-line vents were installed below the ridge lines to ensure proper air circulation within the roof space.
We also replaced other components such as the eave protection felt, installed over fascia vents for ventilation, and replaced the guttering with uPVC half-round guttering to match the existing setup. Furthermore, we installed new ridge battens, Fleur de Lys style ridge tiles, and replaced valley tiles as part of the comprehensive refurbishment plan.
Finally, the project included replacing old leadwork with new lead, addressing mortar-bedded details on parapet walls, and ensuring proper integration with brickwork and roof tiles to complete the refurbishment.
